Theme Compliance:
Submitted artworks (paintings only) must align with the theme "Metamorphosis: The Art of Transformation," exploring concepts of change, growth, and evolution.
Here are some potential interpretations:
  • Personal journey including works that reflect an individual’s growth, identify shifts or an emotional transformation. Artists might depict significant life events, internal struggles, or moments of self-discovery.
  • Landscape change artwork portraying the transformation of physical environments, whether through natural processes, human intervention, or the passage of time. This might include changing seasons, urban development, or the impact of climate change.
  • Biological and natural transformations depicting metamorphosis in the natural world, such as the life cycles of animals (e.g. a caterpillar becoming a butterfly), plant growth, or geological transformations.
  • Cultural and social change exploring shifts in societal norms, cultural evolution, or historical changes within communities. This could encompass movements for social justice, technological advancements, or generational changes.
  • Abstract and conceptual change involving more abstract representations of change, using shapes, colours, and forms to symbolise transformation. Artists might experiment with different mediums or techniques to express the concept of metamorphosis.
Examples of themes within Metamorphosis:
  • Rebirth and Renewal: Highlighting cycles of death and rebirth, regeneration, and new beginnings.
  • Evolution: Artistic representations of biological evolution, human progress, or technological advancements.
  • Decay and Regrowth: Exploring the process of decay as a precursor to new growth or transformation.
  • Identity and Transformation: Depictions of how personal identity changes over time through experiences, challenges, and self-realisation.
  • Environmental Shifts: Artworks showing the changing landscapes due to natural forces or human impact.
